Why is zantac prescribed

Pharmacist told me at the time apx. Upon refilling my RX last week, after another series of vaguely factual articles had been released, I asked my pharmacist if my prescription was safe. She checked her computer and said my prescription was from a non-involved manufacturer and was not included in recall.

Am seeing my ear, nose and throat Dr. Ranitidine has worked extremely well for me. Nothing has addressed the liquid form.

I took protonix for years. I appreciate the education but, anyone that suffers like I do, know that there is not much relief out there and not everything works for each individual person. NDMA is a carcinogen and found in many daily things like water, dairy, meat, etc.

I just will take my chances because even the air we breathe is dangerous. In my opinion I would rather think of it helping more so then slowly killing me. My father-in-law used to have to take a heartburn pill after each meal. After switching to alkaline water, he seldom takes a pill. Some people just need to change something in their diets to find relief. A lot of people look for a pill to treat the symptoms of a dietary insufficiency.

I say this as a father to my toddler that has to take immunotherapy to correct her continuous battle with OMA Opsoclonus Myoclonus Ataxia from Neuroblastoma cancer. We were prescribed Zantac for a month when she was a newborn.

This was before discovering she was born with pyloric stenosis as the medicine only seemed to make her spit up more. I do not believe this to be the cause of her cancer, but it may have been a contributing factor, as the cancer was not in her CT scan from when she had surgery to correct the pyloric stenosis. My only hope is that whoever reads this, is a little more cautious then I was about the chemicals they put in and on their bodies, and the body of their loved ones.

It is no wonder that cancer is 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women, when the food, clothes, drugs, shelters, and ,as you mentioned, air contain harmful man made chemicals. For example, for years I used to use head and shoulders for men, because I had a dry itchy scalp, and thought it smelled good. After my daughters pyloric stenosis surgery, we switched our lifestyle to introduce more natural products.

I switched to a natural shampoo and conditioner, and the dryness and itchiness stopped the next day. Unlike the levels found in meat, water, etc. Okay I was taking ranitidine Hcl mg 1 tablet twice a day while I was pregnant. Should I be concerned about my child right who suffers with a learning disability. Wow this just blew me away. I have two bottles of Zantac one hour for the other on you I threw out the packaging I want to return it because of my concerns.

Do I return it to the company and do they except the return? Any suggestions would be helpful. Being taking Ranitidine for about 4 years for acid reflux going to talk to my doctor if I should stop taking medication no affects from the specifed ingredient NDMA seeing if I should have a test done. Just thought I would let someone know. Ranitidine is the only medicine I have found that I can take with my heart condition…not sure what to do now?

I cannot take any other over-the-counter heartburn meds I have checked them all… Pepcid never worked for me before I knew anout my heart condition anyway.

Which batches are affected? If you have some that you purchased months ago are they ok? Oh my gosh, my daughter and I are panicking about stores taking this product off the shelf. We both have GERD and this has always worked by just one mg dose at bedtime per day. We tried to go to pharmacy to stock up but already pulled off the shelf.

Bring it back! I totally agree , I am much more worried about cancer of the esophagus, I have serious gerd issues! Also, I frequently suffer from skin rashes, and this helps when combined with zyrtec to clear up rashes!!! I am in Australia and have been taking Ranitidine Zantac twice a day it has been used as a blocker as I have chronic Urticaria. What is considered a high dose and over what period of time?

I take ranitadine for chronic idiopathic hives too along with fexafenadine Alegra. I wonder if there are other choices for us. I am fine but wont be if I can get this drug. Too take away a drug millions take is a nightmare. I hope they will sort this as not everyone can take something else. Never feel my reflux but I have stomach burning. Cigarettes cause Cancer yet no one removes them from shelves WHY? Because too many top evil people in the world would lose their precious money!

Including big pharma! So my physician put me on Zantac a week ago….. I called the number on box and the woman told me it was NOT pulled off the market bu if im afraid of getting cancer than its up to me to not take it.

I was amazed she said that considering Im asking her if its safe to take and her response was if Im Afraid? So do I take it or not???? Thank you for the info on this product.

I too have been using this in a mg for quite some time now. Hopefully I will be able to find an alternative that is safe and works. I have stopped mine immediately and returned it to the pharmacy. This is the same for Omeprazole. I was on Nexium and that is why they stopped it and put me on Ranitidine.

I am struggling with trying to keep my Magnesium level up to the bare minimum of the normal range as it is and cannot be on any other GERD Medicines other than Ranitidine.

Chase vinegar with water or put it into a glass of water or applesauce. Two drug manufacturers have voluntarily withdrawn their products from the market indefinitely due to NDMA contamination.

Sandoz has voluntarily recalled its mg and mg ranitidine tablets. Apotex has voluntarily recalled its 75 mg and mg ranitidine products in all delivery formats. For those who asked, Pepcid famotidine and Tagamet cimetidine are the same class of drug as Zantac H2 blockers. They work more slowly than ranitidine does. Be careful substituting Tagamet cimetidine for Zantac ranitidine.

Tagamet cimetidine has many drug-drug interactions that Zantac ranitidine does not. I would feel okay with suggesting Pepcid famotidine in place of Zantac ranitidine Your Pharmacist. So, there goes the theory of trampling only makers of generics. My husband has taken ranitidine for years prescribed by VA, he now has esophageal cancer.

Had we known it caused cancer he would have taken only omeprazole for the acid reflux. We wonder now if he should take anything at all. I switched her to Pepcid.

I would feel terrible if this hurt her Also what kind of cancer did it cause. Personally, I am more concerned about cancer from not taking the medication. Zantac treats GERD, a known cause of esophageal cancer. I have Severe reflux causing swelling in the esophagus. Zantac is the only medicine I can have and it works! Now there is NO zantac or generic available here and I am so Sick!

What are we supposed to do?!! I hope they return it to the shelves asap. Feel free to mail it to me as I absolutely get no relief from any other products but Zantac. I hope they get it back ASAP. Where do I sign up for a class action group? Switched to Omeprezol. My Doctor says that that it also has its own issues.

Thanks, Big Pharma! My Golden Retriever took Apoquel for her allergies. She was later diagnosed with cancer and, after surgery was to began chemo treatments.

She was given an injection of Cytopoint which helped her allergies. Unfortunately, the chemo could not keep the aggressive cancer at bay. Did Apoquel help or hurt? Should I be concerned about it? Is this considered low dose or high dose? Should I stop taking it?

This is the best over the counter medication that controls my acid all day long. Please somebody let me know what I should do. Thank you! Everything, cause cancer… even use the cell phone… the wifi… i use ranitidine for my 3 pregnancies….

After my carcinoid cancer diagnosis and subsequent surgery, I was placed on Zantac mg bid. This new revelation is frightening! So, what am I to be on the watch for? What type of cancer does this cause?? The bottom line is if someone gets cancer, let alone dies from it …there will never be a way to attribute it to Ranitidine.

Still, I have signed onto a class action lawsuit, yet highly doubt much of it comes to it. Perhaps some safeguards for people in the future. Big Parm could care less about humans-What is with the FDA we need new people they are suppose to protect us not consistently change their minds after 2 years and Azure totally agree with you.

Its really all about the money!!! What is the path to join this class action lawsuit you joined? I was prescribed the mg for 90 days and just finished script but DO NOT want to refill script… than you so much for input!! Take into consideration all the good meds they have brought forth. H2 blockers saved my life from a devastating grade c esophagitis that severely constricted my esophagus twice in my life.

Every item you ingest, especially medicines, come with a certain amount of risk, especially over the long term as they learn more and more about each of them, how they interact with certain people with certain medical conditions, and with other medicines. Yes, funny how Canada with gov. Sponsored health care pulls Zantac, yet here in the good ol USA and big pharma and multi billion dollar insurance companies tell us everything is fine, nothing to see here.

Money profits over health. Bravo, re last sentence! Reliable research protocol- double-blind study no longer exists. One and a half years ago I had to go into the hospital for emergency surgery.

I had a bleeding ulcer. When the surgeon got to taking care of my ulcer they discovered a tumor. Turned out to be cancer. Proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole has been proven through many studies that it has a high risk of cancer over years of usage…….. Someone has a new medication to come out on the market cheaper to manufacture…. Different patent that they can squeeze for maximum profit. Are all the generics going to disappear, leaving only patented, newer drugs, available, even though ranitidine has been tested by millions of the ultimate lab rats, us , with remarkably few issues attributed.

Also, do all batches have NDMA, or just some, and do all manufacturers have the issue, or just some. Who raised the issue first — FDA or a pharma company? Much more could be said but gets off the current topic.

Why this fear-driven data-deficient action, causing withdrawal from the market without any human cases found, stoking fear for patients, while lethal drugs are still tolerated on the market en masse? FDA habitually allows products containing toxins to line drug store isles. Look up PPD. Judicious to assume if info about Ranitidine leaked through claiming minor risk- we must assume major risk.

Does that answer your question? A no-brainer. You know, the acid reflux I get and take this medication for can cause esophageal cancer if acid keeps burning it. So what can we do?

It has taken them long enough to publish information. So if all things being equal, dose this follow that this will follow like the baby talchum powder cover up law suites against these drug manufactures as well. Who is getting rich? Pharma companies!! Look on your Rx paperwork from your pharmacy. My doctors prescribed ranitidine for me years ago. I have a lot of stomach problems. I also have other health problems.

I was never warned that it could happen,.. I honestly felt a little better off of it than when I took it, although my stomach acid came back. I told the doctor, but was told to keep taking it.

Now, after reading about other countries banning it,.. What is considered a High Dosage of the product? I have taken two mg tablets a day for yrs. My creatine has been steadily climbing. Could there be a connection between the two? I been taking mg for a couple of years now. Just recently a mass was taken out of my esophagus was in for a biopsy only…I am very concerned. What kind of cancer could Zantac cause? Now what am I going to do?? I feel exactly the same way. I have been taken for 20 years and am getting worried.

My own opinion is the competitors just dont like how well it worked so they figured out a way to get it off the market by creating a cloud of suspicions about i. They shouldnt be taking it off the market. And they can spare me the b. If pharmacies dont sell it that is the same as it being taken off the market. Why are medications contaminated? Why are pharmaceutical companies not held to Good Manufacturing Practices?

So how bad have I hurt my body….. It is important to keep all medication out of sight and reach of children as many containers such as weekly pill minders and those for eye drops, creams, patches, and inhalers are not child-resistant and young children can open them easily. To protect young children from poisoning, always lock safety caps and immediately place the medication in a safe location — one that is up and away and out of their sight and reach.

In case of overdose, call the poison control helpline at If the victim has collapsed, had a seizure, has trouble breathing, or can't be awakened, immediately call emergency services at Before having any laboratory test, tell your doctor and the laboratory personnel that you are taking ranitidine. Do not let anyone else take your medicine. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription. It is important for you to keep a written list of all of the prescription and nonprescription over-the-counter medicines you are taking, as well as any products such as vitamins, minerals, or other dietary supplements.

You should bring this list with you each time you visit a doctor or if you are admitted to a hospital. It is also important information to carry with you in case of emergencies. Generic alternatives may be available.
