How many radiator cores
We take the same approach but we have the luxury of technological advances in material formation and construction. We make to order.
There is a nationwide labor shortage. Please allow adequate time for us to build. Build times vary between 15 and 24 weeks at present. Close menu. Facel Vega to Jordan F to J. Kesler to Overland K to O. Specials It is also possible to manufacture special types of cores. For many makes of cars the core pattern is very distinctive for the make.
We can make tooling for one-offs. Film Types Film or ribbon type cores are made by pressing or rolling copper or brass strip into a certain pattern.
S-Fin Cores Cores with oval tubes and S-shaped fins in between the tubes. Gilled Tubes These are round or oval tubes with fins to improve the cooling area. Gilled tubes are made in many types with round or square fins, profiled or flat, and fitted in headers or as Serpentine radiators for veteran automobiles. Contact us Enquiries about radiator cores. A two-row is a radiator that is constructed with a core that contains two rows of tubes, and is what Champion considers to be their Economy Series.
An all-aluminum radiator constructed with two rows of tubes would be equivalent, and in many cases superior to, a three-row copper-brass radiator of identical dimensions. In these cases, it would be wise to consider an aluminum replacement with at least three rows of tubes, as the cooling needs of a high-output engine are much greater. If the engine in your vehicle has been modified from stock to produce far more horsepower than it did when it was originally designed, a four-row radiator would be strongly recommended if available for your vehicle.
These radiators will cool in excess of horsepower. We find that many of our customers think they need the four-row core, which in some instances can actually be overkill. Engines are engineered to run within a certain temperature range, and over-cooling with a too-large radiator can cause the engine to run too cool. The problem is caused by having more surface area that is being cooled by air and larger amounts of coolant circulating through the radiator than necessary.
